So, yesterday morning (day two here) i finally got my act together and brought everything, i had soap, face soap, shampoo (Rach's) and all the other essentials. While i was quietly celebrating my victory, soaping myself up i had one of those sick feelings. It occurred to me that i had left my towel in the room. I had done this almost every day in San Francisco, but i could just stick an arm out the bathroom and get it. Not today...
So to paint the picture, im standing there, dripping wet and soaped up.. naked.. with thongs on so i didnt get any dam diseases from the shower. I couldnt help but laugh but no sooner had i started to chuckle my instincts took over. I was having a McGuiver (probably spelt wrong) moment, i constructed a crude towel from bits of tape, other peoples hair (which was plentiful on the shower floor) and crusty dry soap. (great absorption) and a plastic bottle cap.. well.. thats not entirely true, i acually just dried myself with the t-shirt i slept in (stinky) and some 5 day old thermals (really stinky). Needless to day after my "shower" i was wetter and stinkier than when i had got in. The day was getting away from us and we were headed to the Zoo so there was just no time for a do over.
The other thing with showering here, while I'm on the topic is its very hard to get dressed without touching the floor with a bare foot. Let me explain. to put on my now trademark mustard super skinny jeans there is a certain degree of flexibility required, now this is fine normally you just need a relatively open and obstacle free space. The problem is, when you are crammed into a tiny shower things get difficult. To add to this, the real problem is you don't want to be touching ANY part of your foot to the floor here and to put the jeans on you must first remove one thong, balance on one leg, carefully bend yourself in such a way that you can insert one leg into the jeans without it touching the wet and disease infested floor then pull them up while balancing. Even then thats only half the battle. you must then carefully put the thong back on while still balancing on one foot then repeat the same process however due to the tightness of the jeans this second leg requires far more flexibility, concentration and persistence. Im actually getting pretty good at it now, and i am yet to touch a toe on the floor. The ankles of the jeans do get a bit wet, but thats unavoidable unless you work for Circe De so lei on the side (leave my spelling alone i have only 24 min left and cant fix it).
Now, thats about a thousand words and i still haven't got out the front door! I will let the pictures do the talking for the zoo.
Had to be a fake name
Hmmm... there are heaps more photos but i have run out of my quota of images (1gb) on Picasa.... its gonna cost me to upload more.. I'm gonna have to have a look into that and see how much it is..
Brad i have photos of Pandas for you!!
I will write about today and upload pics when i work out how or decide to pay (pending cost).
So today was my day away from the girls, i had it all planned brilliantly. I would go to Ralph's supermarket and buy a "monster sandwich's" thats what they are really called. (this will be part of my food diary which upon request i will post soon) then go to the San Diego automotive Museum, then next door to the Air and Space Museum of San Diego, then down to the USS Midway, which is a retired Aircraft carrier turned museum. Now a lot of you wont be interested in this so much, but the photos are pretty good considering the day was cloudy, and i know you dad will be.
At the Air and space museum they had the retractable belly turret from a B-24 which was cool to see, and while i was checking out the USS Midway (F-14, F18's, F4 + many others) they decided to send the USS Ronald Reagan out to see with chopper escort and some pretty tight security.
I am going to have to upload these pics cause they turned out nice and i know you will love to see them dad. Might have to monetize this blog (adds) and make you all click on them to fund the thing. Its getting expensive with Internet time ($5 an hour) and paying to upload pictures.
One last little story as my time is running out. I was sitting outside the Automotive museum eating my breakfast (monster sandwich, 6pack of mini doughnuts and orange juice) and i herd a rustling in the trees behind me. Now im used to running for my life in Australia, because its probably a snake, spider, rat, crocodile, scorpion or some other deadly creature, but before i ran off into the distance crying i decided to wait it out and see what it was. Turns out it was a Squirrel! It was only my second sighting and they truly are the cutest things ever and really happy to come up close. Rach tried to feed the one we saw yesterday some Corn nuts (salted unpopped corn) and he picked it up took a whiff threw it down in disgust and ran back into the trees. I donut blame him, i did the same.
Anyway i really better be going, its getting frustrating I'm doing so much i cant possibly cover it all in the blog and still have time to enjoy myself, but i cooked an epic meal tonight (epic and expensive) and I'm going to add that to my food blog.
Anyway hope your all still here, and i hope i can work out this picture thing cause I'd be surprised if anyone would still read it without them!
OK, gotta run, my time is up, no time to proof read, so go easy.
Michael..
Hi Mike,
ReplyDeleteWe are all enjoying your really entertaining writing (and spelling!) and I am lovingthe pictures so far - the zoo ones were great. You'll be able to start your own stock photo library! Brisbane has been having some really massive and daming storms that last two days - we are in the middle of another as I write. So far no damage to us or Nannee though. Cheers for now - got to go and start the 6pm Graduation Ceremony! Dad
Glad your checking this regularly, shame about the weather there it's been crazy up where David is too. Your spelling leaves a little to be desired too up there... Daming? Did u mean damaging? Hope I spelt that right.. No auto correct on my phone. I'm gonna call you guys on sat, heaps to tell you.
ReplyDeleteTalk soon. Mike.
